Plastic surgery is a controversial topic nowadays. Some men and women believe that plastic surgery is a great opportunity to finally have the body, face and even the romantic life they have always dreamed of. In the United States, television programs about plastic surgery have made these ideas more popular and common than ever. Some men and women have other reasons for wanting plastic surgery. For example, people who want plastic surgery have facial or body disfigurements due to birth defects or genetic problems. The increase in plastic surgery in the United States is a bad sign for the future. Plastic surgery is not always a good thing for everyone. Cosmetic surgery should be prohibited for teenagers and people with psychological problems. Plastic surgery can be harmful to teenagers because they fail to think about the long-term risks. For example, breast implants pose risks such as infection, chronic pain, numbness, and future problems with breastfeeding. Some surgeons discuss with patients or perform psychological tests to be sure that adolescent patients have a level of maturity to make the decision for implants. Teenagers are often reckless people and the future seems very distant for a young girl who wants a model look. This also applies to teenagers and other types of surgeries. In addition to teenagers, plastic surgery is harmful to some people with psychological problems. For example, women who received their first face transplant had psychological problems. Some medical specialists had a more moderate view as Arthur Caplan, Ph.D. the chairman of the medical ethics department at the University of Pennsylvania, says he is not against face transplants. He thinks people with burns like oral cancer are absolutely a good candidate, but he also thinks experimental treatments are... half the paper... and seeing as parents have paid for cosmetic surgery for their kids as holiday gifts. It is important to consider the risk to adolescents of these increasingly common procedures, such as breast implants and liposuction. Some cosmetic surgery procedures can be dangerous because a foreign substance, such as plant, is inserted into the body and can be rejected. Plastic surgery has increased risks for teens because teen bodies are still growing and developing. It's not always clear how surgery will affect them later in life. In conclusion, we must prevent adolescents from undergoing these interventions and we must also prevent people with psychological problems from undergoing these interventions. In other situations, the benefits of plastic surgery can be given to people who want them. As for me, I would never want plastic surgery. I would always prefer to improve myself in other ways, not surgically.
