Henry Ford once said “Getting together is a beginning; being together is progress; working together is a success." The new agreement depended on the entire nation working together to fight for relief, recovery and reform. Whether the new agreement was a success or not depends on what one believes the new agreement was designed to achieve. To me, the new deal was implemented to help restore the U.S. economy, not simply fix the economy. The new agreement greatly repaired the economic condition of the United States caused by the Great Depression, however, it did not fully restore the economy to the peak point it was at before the stock market crash of October 29, 1929. A series of relief programs to provide jobs to unemployed Americans, as well as acts and agencies to not only help rebuild the economy, but also to ensure that a repeat of the Depression never occurs. Franklin Delano Roosevelt promised the nation that his first presidential act would be to implement the new agreement in one hundred days of action if he were elected.
