I was only 14 years old but I was able to think long and hard about the path I was on and what path I needed to take. I vividly remember my mother telling me to “always stay on the crooked path and cut straight” (which means seeing your mistakes and gradually correcting them) – and so I did. I became a new person by devouring my lessons as if I were on my last breath. I was no longer ashamed of my academic performance as my GPA had risen to 3.4 on my first midterms at my new school. I was finally on the right path and, as Mezirow said, "the student has a path to follow towards new ways of thinking...
