There have been many presidents who have come and gone from the White House over time. Some presidents have done a great job in office, other presidents have not done so well in the White House. People in general have different opinions about the president, some people might say one president was the best while another person might disagree. In my opinion of all the presidents there is a man named Abraham Lincoln who I think was one of the greatest presidents of all time. One of the current presidents who I think doesn't do a very good job in office is President Barack Obama. There are many reasons why I put these two in the categories I did and in my essay I will explain this reasoning behind my opinion. Abraham Lincoln is in my opinion one of the best presidents to ever set foot in office. Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 to a poor family and was self-educated. Abraham Lincoln began his great journey becoming a country lawyer, a Whig Party leader, an Illinois state legislator, and a term in the U.S. House of Representatives in the 1830s. Without any support from the South, Abraham Lincoln swept the North and was elected president in 1860. Abraham Lincoln had several goals, but what makes him such a good president is that he achieved his goals, he wanted to get rid of slavery and he fought to have success. in that. Abraham Lincoln used what was called the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863 to use the military to protect escaped slaves. Abraham Lincoln wanted to encourage the border states to outlaw slavery. He also promoted the Thirteenth Amendment which permanently outlawed slavery. Abraham Lincoln was also a good listener and he created a climate where members of the cabinet were… at the center of the paper… someone who would become a leader, someone who is like Abraham Lincoln and is honest and is a strong character. Many things have changed from when Abraham Lincoln was president to today. Being president is not an easy job, there will be ups and downs, being a leader of the United States requires a lot of commitment and support for everyone in office. When Americans vote for a president, they choose between two candidates, they want someone they can trust and be a leader, but sometimes the people running say they will do this and that, but when they get elected it's a completely different game. I wish we could have another president who has the characteristics of Abraham Lincoln and can bring things back to normal and someone who can be trusted and keeps promises. My opinion will always be that Abraham Lincoln was the greatest president to ever take office.
