Is your school safe? School safety is an urgent issue that should be considered across the nation. There are five different forms of school safety. The first is building safety. Building security concerns security at entrances and exits. The second type of school safety is emotional and social safety. Emotional and social safety is the protection of students' feelings and how others affect them. The third type of school security is Edgewood Middle School which has policies and procedures for all forms of security. For building security the school has a camera near the front door with a buzzer which needs to be unlocked by the person in the main office. All doors are closed during school hours unless it is a field day or special occasion. In a letter from Dr. Behlow, he said: “Each of our schools has eight security cameras around the exterior perimeter of the building recording activity 24 hours a day, seven days a week.” It goes without saying that building safety at Edgewood Middle School is a top priority. Practice procedures at Edgewood MIddle School are taken very seriously. During a fire drill, when the alarm goes off, the firefighters and police are immediately notified and all students go to the nearest teacher. The teachers line up her children in a single line and the last person out the door turns off the lights. The teacher then silently escorts his or her students to the assigned classroom area outside the building. The students then stand outside in silence while the teachers make sure no one is left in the building. Once the firefighters have cleared the school, everyone returns and the day continues. Another drill in Edgewood is a tornado drill. Does a bell ring during a tornado drill? So all stupid... middle of paper... gy security is everything from cyberbullying to looking for inappropriate things. Edgewood has made cyberbullying very difficult. The admin stopped messaging on Google Docs so as not to let someone communicate in a rude conversation. The only other way cyberbullying can occur using Edgewood technology is if someone forgets to log out of their email and someone else bullies that person or someone else through their account. The other part of tech safety is looking for inappropriate things. At the end of the year all computers are checked for non-educational connections. So they don't narrow it down to a certain number of people in a given class who might have searched for the inappropriate link. The final type of school safety is concussion safety. The definition of concussion is a temporary loss of consciousness caused by a blow to the head. When someone at school
