The Discursive Community of Music Educators As a musician you are exposed to many different types of terminology, ideas, debates and concepts that most people are not. There are interests and topics that we find interesting like the different language we use to communicate with each other, they are very different from someone who is heavily invested in other activities like sports or even knitting. With these differences we formed our social group. The definition of music educator is a field that touches all areas of learning, including psychomotor, cognitive and, in a particular and significant way, affective, including musical appreciation and sensitivity. In our community we strive to achieve the goals set in this definition and also to move forward in the advancement of music in the world. Swales' article is based on community discourse. According to this article, a discursive community is a group of people who share a set of discourses, understood as basic values ​​and assumptions, and ways of communicating about those goals. As a young musician, I can definitely see the transformation I've made by surrounding myself with people similar to me. Even though I am not a certified music educator, I still feel part of this community because you don't need a certification to call yourself a music educator, all you need is love and passion to spread the knowledge of music. Within the musician's discourse we have different branches, from the choir to the instrumentalist up to contemporary musicians. I myself am part of the instrumental group. As a progressing music teacher, a cheesy phrase many of us use is "music must choose you, you can't choose music" and I believe it's true that there are many people trying to make music before them, but it's not Like this. doesn't work unless they have the drive and willingness to practice for hours at a time just to get 4 minute songs to the point where they might be ready to perform or to be the person who will sit with a child who sounds like a dying duck just to help them succeed in something that they want to do because you know that in the long run, even if sitting there is hard to do, the student will one day become a musician and could be the one to change music forever. Now I can see myself becoming more like my community and appreciating my surroundings and people even more.
