One of the few things we should be able to trust is our government. However, as the years pass, we are faced with more and more ethical debates about the actions conducted by our government. After 9/11, President Bush launched the "War on Terror" campaign and authorized the use of torture at Guantanamo Bay, deeming it necessary in times of terror and war (quote). Even though President Obama's most promising campaign goal was to close Guantanamo Bay within a year of his presidency, GITMO is still up and running and makes widespread use of medically sanctioned torture (Crook 115-116) . President Obama has made many promises around the world. his presidency which he did not fulfill; one of which is the closure of Guantanamo Bay. His campaign promise included closing Guantanamo Bay within a year of his presidency. “The administration's efforts to end detention at Guantánamo Bay continue,1 but President Obama's deadline to complete the process within one year of taking office will not be met. The attempt to end detentions at Guantanamo Bay has become a rallying point for some of the president's domestic critics, who see it as an expression of weakness in the effort to combat terrorism” (Crook 115-116). “President Obama pledged to close the U.S. detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, by January 23, 2010 (Rubenstein 353).” Obama also wanted to close all “secret” CIA detention facilities ““Military commissions have been used by the United States to try those who violated the laws of war for more than two centuries. Furthermore, the United States Supreme Court recognized in Hamdan v.
