As a president who stepped up in a crisis and showed his ability to care for his country, Lyndon B. Johnson was an above-average president. You can look down on US presidents and you can't say the same for about half or more of them. Johnson, born and raised in Stonewall, Texas. There was a town nearby called Johnson City, named after the family because of their farming and ranching skills. He struggled a lot when he went to school (Lyndon B. Johnson). He married Claudia "Lady Bird" Taylor after a courtship in 1934, then campaigned for the House of Representatives on a "New Deal platform" (LBJ: Biography). He served in both the United States Senate and the House of Representatives (Lyndon B. Johnson History.com). When Johnson was vice president, he headed the space program. He also worked to promote equality among all. He believed that every individual should be equal and have equal opportunities. Not many other presidents felt the same way about equal opportunity. After President Kennedy's assassination, Johnson had to step up and take control. He handled situations with mass calm because he knew what he had to do. Surely the assassination was a surprise to America and to Johnson, but action had to be taken at a distance and Lyndon B. Johnson was a wonderful man who achieved so many different goals and truly helped American society, poverty, and made sure everyone was equal.
