It's so hot! Today, millions of motor vehicles produce greenhouse gases that escape into our atmosphere. At the rate society is going, a topic like global warming is being taken into consideration more and more. This dependence on oil not only harms our environment, but could also have negative effects on our independence. The United States imports most of its oil from foreign nations, which could pose problems in the future. This is why alternative fuels such as hydrogen should be thoroughly researched. The motor transportation industry should invest in in-depth hydrogen research and development to help save fuel, create greater national energy security, make fuel more efficient and renewable, and more environmentally friendly. With the high rates of oil consumption in today's society, many demands for oil must be met. These oil demands are met by the import of crude oil from other nations. Hydrogen can be used to help the United States escape dependence on other nations and possibly at competitive prices; however, hydrogen is being held back because the initial costs would be excessively high. Hydrogen does not occur naturally in itself, but it can be produced in many different ways. Hydrogen can be produced using fossil fuels, nuclear energy and biomass such as wind, solar, Brannan geothermal and hydroelectric energy (“Alternative”). Each process could represent a reliable way to produce a self-sustaining and safe hydrogen economy within the borders of the United States. Over time, hydrogen may prove to be a competitively priced product compared to gasoline and could drive prices down. The President of the United States has launched initiatives to have competitiveness...... half of the document......
