One of the most important roles in the ecocolumn are decomposers decomposers are organisms such as the earthworm which is usually an invertebrate organism that decomposes organic material(1). These organisms are important as without them there would be many dead bodies around, fungi are another example of a decomposer. Producers are one, if not the most important role in an ecosystem as they are responsible for the production of biomass from inorganic compounds(1 ). Some single-celled organisms such as bacteria can be producers, but most producers are plants that nourish some organisms and begin the life cycle. Most producers begin the cycle by performing photosynthesis. Finally, consumers are animals that lack the ability to produce their own food, so they rely on other organisms to live (1). Most consumers are at the top of the food chain, for example lions, tigers and sharks. These animals are predators, animals that hunt other animals for food. Predation in some cases can be considered parasitism since sometimes the mortality rate is higher than the birth rate. When resources are scarce, competition is present in the ecosystem and competition between the same species occurs when resources are extremely limited
