According to Andrew Heywood, libertarianism gives a strict priority to freedom over other values, such as authority, tradition, and equality (Heywood, 85). Since my score was 0.31, I wasn't surprised. I believe that authority is an important aspect of order in society; however, the power given to the authority should not be abused. The role of the authority should be to regulate and enforce laws, not to enact them. To avoid having a completely authoritarian government, power should be divided among a group of individuals. While every citizen should retain the right to due process, those found guilty of a crime should be punished. One of the questions on the exam was about capital punishment and I believe that if one commits a horrible crime, the punishment should fit the crime. It would seem unfair for a murderer to spend his life in prison, while living, eating and receiving medical care on taxpayers' money. This exam found me more authoritarian than libertarian. However, I cannot agree with Hitler's extremist justifications for wanting to wipe out an entire country
