An epic is a long narrative poem that recounts the exploits of an epic hero. Epic poems include an epic hero and an epic battle between good and evil. The earliest epic known today is The Epic of Gilgamesh. This story is about Gilgamesh's quest for eternal life. Although epic poems have existed for thousands of years, the epic tradition still has a huge impact on modern writing and filmmaking. Indeed, Batman, the story of Bruce Wayne trying to defeat all the criminals of Gotham, can be seen as a modern epic. An epic must have a large setting, begin "in medias res", and consist of epithets. In The Epic of Gilgamesh, he travels to an island where no human has ever been before and further into the unknown world, similar to how Bruce Wayne is released from prison at the beginning of his journey and travels to high unknown peaks in the snow-capped mountains where he must be trained to become Batman. Epithets, a descriptive phrase, are also included in epic poems. Batman, the Dark Knight, is the savior of Gotham when he finally defeats the Joker. Being born into the royal family, Gilgamesh is also known as the king of Uruk. “In medias res” is typically how epic poems begin, just like Batman and The Iliad begin. Batman's story begins with his parents being one of the richest families in Gotham and the city is corrupt as the Iliad begins in the ninth year of the Trojan War. An epic hero is admired for great achievements and is the main character of an epic. Heroic traits are elevations in status, having flaws, determining the fate of a city, performing great deeds, possessing a special weapon, and experiencing a traumatic event. Bruce Wayne was born into one of the richest families in the city and is expected to take over his father's business, the Wayne Company, the most pro... Joker, there is news broadcast around the world about the epic battle. The epic battle of the Ramayana is about Rama fighting Ravana to try to save his wife, Sita, who Ravana has taken. During their battle, the earth rumbles and thunder and lightning begin to strike. Epic poems still influence the world today. They are still relevant because people can learn multiple life lessons and see recurring themes of what to do and what not to do. Reading children's bedtime stories or spotting recurring patterns, epic poems are now wonderful entertainment. Heroic traits are values that different cultures hold dear. The hero is considered the “perfect” citizen that everyone strives to be. Many heroes had flaws, but their extraordinary actions and personalities outweighed their mistakes which make people want to do more good than harm.
