In this essay I will cover aspects of how criminology can help prevent future crimes. I will also discuss and analyze one aspect of how the study of criminology can be a useful endeavor to benefit society and prevent crime. I will talk about how to prevent future crimes with cognitive behavioral therapy. According to Siegel (2012), criminology tries to explain the nature of crimes, when crimes start from the beginning or origin, and tries to identify the cause of crimes and spend time on crime controls. Criminological theory is trying to understand how individuals or groups influence legal decisions. Some of the crime patterns that criminologists are looking for are that some statistics show that the highest crime rates occur in poor neighborhoods in large urban areas.
