Nature is a controlling force that can influence an individual in multiple directions. It can be used descriptively to describe a feeling of emotion that someone is trying to portray. In the book Frankenstein written by Mary Shelly the main character and narrator Victor Frankenstein uses nature and the natural world to his advantage. Victor builds a relationship between himself and nature that binds him to tell the story of his life and also of the creation he brought to life. Throughout the text Victor seems to have a few skeletons in his closet that make him a nervous wreck. He was dedicated to creating another human being and finding a way to create a man greater than anything anyone had ever seen. With those intentions and determination he succeeded, but in the end he regretted his creation. From then on he was a troubled individual. Nature in the text has become his way out from beginning to end to convey his emotions to the reader. Victor uses nature to build a connection that allows the reader to grasp the problems he is experiencing in the book. Without nature Victor Frankenstein would be nothing. At the beginning of the first volume, during the first letter on page 7, the narrator begins the letter by describing the cold winter breeze and says, "I feel a cold north breeze touch my cheeks, which strengthens my nerves." Time has already become a focal point before the chapter unfolds. Once again seen in the first chapter, time becomes the topic of its description. Time has taken a toll on his life and changed his views and speculations. In chapter two he continues learning at a new school where he is struck by the words that M.Waldman says on page 29 "They penetrate the recesses of nature, and show... middle of paper... ...ic incident above my head ” (Frankenstein, page 49). The strong imagery he uses to describe the storm foreshadows the more horrific events waiting to befall the wandering creature. His personal problems will begin to consume him and his dark secret will come to light. With his new discovery and creation, nature has always played a role in Victor's life since day one. From nature we grow and learn at the same time life can only be lived for a certain period. In the end, nature and Frankenstein are one. Both live and breathe life, but that which is given life must also face death.
