INTRODUCTION Mobile phone technology is a technology that the vast majority of us would be familiar with, as it allows you to call virtually anywhere at any time as long as they are connected to a network . Cell phones have revolutionized the world of personal communication, which is why it is important to know the impact the technology has had on the community. This essay will, in brief, trace the history of mobile phone technology along with an examination of the social impacts this technology has had. HISTORY OF CELL PHONESAlthough cell phones are easy to obtain today, it has been decades since the technology was discovered that they became available on the public market. "The History of Cell Phones" (2011) states that cell phone technology can be traced back to its earliest form in two-way radio technology developed from the 1940s onward. However, the first genuine cell phone was used by Swedish Poles in 1946. In 1947, DH Ring of Blue Labs designed hexagonal cells and initiated modern cell phone technology (paragraphs 1-3). Although mobile technology was available, albeit limited, in 1967, mobile towers had limited range and lacked the ability to transfer calls to each other; callers were limited to "calling areas". The “call forwarding system” was created in 1970 by Amos Edward Joel, an engineer at Bell Labs. In 1971, AT&T submitted an appeal to the FCC for mobile service, although it took more than ten years for the appeal to be accepted (The History of Cell Phones, 2011, Para. 4-5). be described using three main generations.
