On February 20th I had the pleasure of meeting with Ms. Cynthia Stripsky, General Manager of Chuck E Cheese, for an interview. The interview didn't last more than 15 minutes, however I came away with a lot of information about being a general manager of a store. I chose to write up my job interview to become a general manager because in two months I will be applying to be a general manager for a store opening in Irving, so I wanted to know what to anticipate and expect when I receive my promotion. The interview gave me a lot of information about what the job entails. Number one was the amount of time I will dedicate to work. The average weekly hours for a general manager is approximately 55 hours per week. And general managers are required to work every Friday, Saturday and Sunday because those are the busiest days of the week. Every first Monday of the month the general manager is usually at work for about 12 hours to prepare invoices, schedules and inventory for the following month. This job requires a person who has good time management skills. I also learned that the educational requirements for the general management position at Chuck E Cheese are minimal. The company takes pride in hiring from within that the only thing required is to complete the management ladder provided by the company. If you come from an external company, the requirement is at least two years' experience as a manager. However, when you actually apply for the position, an assessment test is required during the hiring process and an individual only needs to pass the bar required to be a general manager. The hiring process involves placing a question... in the middle of a sheet of paper... about this assignment is that even though talking to someone is the position that offers you information, sometimes some people will want you see the career from their point of view as good or bad. During my interview with Ms. Stripsky I was able to learn a lot about what the job of general manager entails. What he thought is that a person in this position must have great interpersonal skills, attention to detail, basic mathematical understanding and time management. With these tools you can build a great team that will make running a store a little easier. The work itself is not easy and time consuming, but there are also great benefits and rewards that come with the work. To be the general manager of Chuck e cheese you do not need a college degree, however you do need experience, as well as passing the assessment and drug test.
