Millions of tourists visit Germany every year, whether for business trips, attractions or culture. In 2010, in fact, Germany had 380,334,000 tourists (“destatis”). Diversified due to the country's geographic landscape, Germany has a culture and customs unlike any other country in the world. Germany, which is made up of five different regions, is located on the European continent. The five regions of Germany are: the Northern German Lowlands, the Southern German Hills, the Central Highlands, the Alpine Hills, and the Rhine River Valley. Germany is slightly smaller than the state of Montana. Each region has very distinctive landscapes: low and high mountain peaks, lake areas and sandy plains, just to name a few. The lowlands are located in the north, the highlands in the center and the Bavarian Alps in the south. Germany is the 14th most populous country in the world with a population of approximately 81,880,000 people. The capital, Berlin, is the largest city with approximately 3,933,300 natives within the metropolitan area ("infoplease"). Weather conditions have a major impact as 80% of Germany's territory is dedicated to agriculture and forestry. The climate in Germany is generally cool and cloudy, with humid winters and summers and warm mountain winds. There are no drastic differences between day and night temperatures, and in the northern regions they are even less noticeable than in the south. In summer, however, the opposite is true. The northern regions experience a little more heat than the southern Alpine regions. The summer temperature in the northern coastal regions averages around 18°C ("MyGermanCity"). Winters can reach very freezing temperatures. During the winter months of December, January and February, it snows... middle of paper... what the natives believe to be true in the region. Germany has a myriad of events that tourists can go to every year. Germany's diverse background and history make it a unique country that stands out from any other place in the world.
