I haven't read many things where an author personifies something and I think Laura Dockrill, did it perfectly. He was humanized in such a way that if Lorali's chapters didn't have "The Sea" at the top, you would have thought he was human. “The Sea” follows different people and also gives the reader some background on things and people mentioned in the book. One of the groups of people followed from the sea was on board the Liberty ship, the Ablegares boys, who are pirates. Otto, Oksa, and Jasper are pretty fun characters and I really enjoyed following their story. They shared such a great bond that it was fun to read about, but they could be harsh and mean. “The Sea” also follows Orla, a mermaid whose job is to keep an eye on walkers, again she was a really interesting character, which ultimately disappointed me. Although I loved the plot, the characters and all the twists. I didn't fall in love with the writing style. I'm not a big fan of short sentences, I felt that when the book was from Lorali's point of view it made sense but not when it was from the others. I also felt the ending was missing – I was just very confused by the ending. I don't know if it was just me and I got lost
