The House of the Spirits is a drama film made in 1993. The film tells the story of the Trueba family. Esteban Trueba is a violent patriarch but full of love for his wife Clara. It is a story that intertwines love, family conflicts, misunderstandings, tenderness and social injustice, where each member has their own identity among the random events that dot the history of 20th century Chile. The protagonists experience the changing events of their country. At the same time, they are trapped in dramatic family relationships and embody the social and spiritual tensions of a period spanning much of the last century. Gradually we encounter situations of more bitter despotism in the figure of Esteban Trueba (played magnificently by Jeremy Irons) contrasted with the friendliness and kindness of his mysterious wife Clara (Meryl Streep). In this story the characters begin to appear to interact and generate many feelings. It is impossible not to grasp Esteban's harshness and violence, or Clara's sensitivity, the traumas of Ferula's abuse, or the revolutionary ideals of Pedro, who cannot stand the situation of oppression, the impotence of Blanca, who is not It is allowed to love Pedro because the problem is class discrimination.
