Did you know that in 2013, of all children in the United States, under the age of eighteen, 15% were diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (Hicks)? This percentage continues to increase steadily day by day. There is no single, proven reason why this rate continues to increase, but everyone from doctors to concerned parents have their own opinions on why there has been a sudden epidemic in ADHD diagnoses. ADHD is a chronic condition identifiable by a person's inattention, hyperactivity, and occasional impulsivity (Quinn). Many people believe that ADHD is not overdiagnosed. However, one should take a look at who diagnoses children, the fact that there is no legitimate test for ADHD, how high the statistics are in our country, how big pharmaceutical companies and doctors use advertising to attract parents of young children and profit from their expenses, and how dangerous prescription stimulants can be for anyone, especially young children. Once people learn the hard facts of the disorder, ADHD, it becomes clear that the number of children taking medications for this disorder has become dangerously high. tall and useless. Statistics on the number of children and young adults receiving drug treatment for ADHD have been increasing since the 1970s (Connor). Parents and guardians of children diagnosed with ADHD need to better educate themselves about this epidemic. The sudden overdiagnosis of ADHD in the United States is endangering too many children; Doctors are putting more and more children on these dangerous and stimulating drugs every day. First, the children's parents had... half a paper... a lot of money to advertise the disorder and its symptoms on the Internet. TV and radio. So, worried teachers and parents see “symptoms” that their children describe, such as restlessness in class and loss of attention, so they run to a doctor, who is paid by these wealthy companies to distribute drugs. The doctor, influenced by money, free gifts and sometimes even free trips, prescribes the child a stimulant to help him concentrate, without the need for tests. The numbers are climbing, the side effects of depression and drug addiction remain evident, and slowly but surely the health of our young people is deteriorating one percentage at a time. We are poisoning the developing minds of children around the world using advertising propaganda and misdiagnoses. The increase in the number of children being diagnosed with ADHD is too great and causes too many dangers to ignore.
