Before the theory of evolution was a widespread theory in the world of science, Greek and Roman philosophers had their own theories about how life got to its current state and where she would go from there. One theory of the time was that all organisms were reflections of a “perfect” form and were getting closer and closer to it, although this was the least accepted theory although closest to the truth proven hundreds of years later, while another was that all things were simply places on Earth in their current form, common to modern creationism. Even after this, Darwin was not the first to try to explain evolution, he merely provided convincing evidence and published his ideas.
