Topic > The Status of Medical Marijuana - 2422

Medical marijuana is a growing legalization movement throughout the United States, consisting of 16 states and the Washington DC area. This movement has grown immensely as a hot topic since 1996, when it began in California. The main issue behind medical marijuana mainly comes from an ethical point of view, however this essay will refrain from discussing any morality and will be strictly structured through factual information. Arizona recently passed Proposition 203, also known as the Arizona Medical Marijuana Act (AMMA), on November 2, 2010 as an initial measure to decriminalize marijuana for those suffering from chronic and debilitating illnesses as defined in the law. Accurately defining every single law outlined by the Medical Marijuana Program throughout the United States would be impossible; It's too long and in-depth. The purpose of this report is to define how and where medical marijuana began expansion in Arizona with the passage of Proposition 203 which includes regulation and laws based on patients, dispensaries and qualified healthcare providers. We will also discuss the DEA's view on medical marijuana laws in the United States, taking a look at specific cases between patients qualifying under state law and dispensaries prosecuted. This article is not intended to define the morality of cannabis or whether or not it should be legal; the purpose is to specifically inform people about medical cannabis and provide a greater perspective and understanding on whether someone has or is looking to apply for their registry ID card. Medical marijuana was first restricted and criminalized at the federal level with the exception of medical and industrial uses, through the US Marihuana Tax Act of 1937. This was originally enacted... halfway through the document... ates Marshal was then assigned the task of seizing all the premises and properties of the Cooperative.
