Genetically modified products are a huge controversy in the United States. There has been a great deal of conflict between several groups over the question of whether or not genetically modified foods should be sold on a large scale or at least unlabelled. There are many people on both sides of the issue who have provided great insight into what genetically modified foods can do to/for people. Those in favor of genetically modified foods say they allow farmers to have a less risky crop and this can therefore lead to producing more food for a larger population. To some people, this seems like a good benefit for genetically modified foods. Others, however, have found that these facts simply don't help them in the long run. Most people probably don't know this, but most of the food produced in the United States is actually genetically modified food. The side effects people mention are health problems that appear to occur from ingesting genetically modified foods. Another problem with genetically modified foods is that they have been attributed to increased pesticide pollution. Finally, people don't like genetically modified foods because they see that the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) regulates them less than other products on the market (The Issues). It is said that 70% of all food produced in the United States is actually genetically modified. Some people argue that this has contributed to the increase in allergens and pollution over the last 10 years (William and David Schubert).
