As a parent, some of the most difficult questions to answer are those asked by our children. Six years ago, my son, your son asked me one of those questions. He asked “Mom, how come you never went to college?” Without thinking too much, I explained to him that I had discovered I was pregnant by him shortly after finishing high school and I immediately started working to support us. He was silent for a few minutes and I looked over and saw tears in his eyes. I asked him why he was crying. He started sniffing and what he said next changed the direction of my life. He said quietly with horror in his voice "So, it's my fault you didn't go to college?" That sentence broke my heart in ways only a parent could understand. I reassured him that it wasn't his fault and that was a blessing to me. Two weeks later I enrolled in college. It was difficult at first trying to figure out what degree I wanted to pursue.
