There are many people who take drugs like Oxycontin (oxycodone) for example and use it for their own personal pleasure i.e. to get high. The use of prescription drugs by those who don't need them has skyrocketed in recent years, becoming an epidemic not only in big cities, but also in small towns. The problem of people using prescription drugs is not only seen in the United States but throughout the world. Although the use of these drugs is sometimes illegal and for personal pleasure rather than necessity, there are many people who take drugs like Oxycontin for pain. From my experience with my mother taking prescription drugs, there were a few things that became apparent to me over the years of observation. Although my mother uses Oxycontin for her pain, she suffers from arthritis and while this drug works to heal one part of her body, it completely destroys other parts of her body such as her liver. Also noting that my mother has frequent mood changes and the medicine can sometimes make her feel off. Sometimes, looking at what this medicine is capable of in case it is something bad for her body, my family and I tried to tell her that she should try to stop taking the medicine, which is a difficult task , and convert to something more natural due to both the long-term and short-term side effects of the drug. In the following paragraphs I will discuss the dangers of both long-term and short-term problems with Oxycontin while mentioning the problems with stopping the drug. To start, many short-term effects are associated with the drug Oxycodone such as slowed breathing and many others. Oxycodone, also known as Oxycontin, has its short-term effects, as stated in Medication G… in the center of the document… sometimes the early signs and symptoms can be just as harmful as the advanced signs and symptoms. In conclusion, the drug known as Oxycontin appears to have many more negative effects than positive ones. For those who take drugs without a prescription because they don't need them, they just use them for their own enjoyment, law enforcement should work hard to keep these drugs off the streets. Users of the drug should also be more aware of the long- and short-term effects along with withdrawal issues. So perhaps the choice of using the drug could be reconsidered and one could then select a healthier option for pain after visiting a doctor or specialist. I believe that all people who take drugs should seek help to quit even if there are intense withdrawal phases because the person could become addicted to the drug and eventually die from it..
