Thrushes, one of the most innocent birds, sing their hearts out to entertain people, yet they are killed every day. In this novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, there are many racial prejudices. Finches are at the top of the social hierarchy, followed by Cunninghams and Ewells. Maycomb's black community is even inferior to that of the Ewells, even if they were hard workers; they were not treated equally. “Mockingbirds” represent the idea of innocence, so killing a mockingbird means destroying innocence. Throughout the book, many characters are considered mockingbirds. Three examples are Tom Robinson, Boo Radley, and Mr. Dolphus Raymond. Those three characters are innocent; they are kind and have never been harmful to others. However, they were destroyed due to contact with evil.
