Topic > Reflection on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Reviewing my homework, I found that there are some similarities between them. The aspect of domestic violence, prostitution and servitude made me think: “Why do these things happen to women? I always thought I could be anything I wanted to be. I just had to focus my mind and work hard and my dreams or goals would be achieved. We all want to do something for ourselves and try to make the right decision to make our dreams come true. So why do some people take advantage of other people's dreams and turn them into nightmares? Human trafficking (sex slaves or prostitution and servitude) in this world is somehow getting out of hand. It seems like some people have their own option for how things should be; as in how they live their life without regard to how they affect the other person or the people around them. They don't think about the consequences or punishment if they get caught, all they think about is themselves and what they want right here and now. It's even more annoying that people with a lot of money are the ones who seem careless and/or take advantage of others who are less fortunate than them. In my first assignment “My Awakening,” I told a story about domestic violence. Mr. Mohammed beats and humiliates his wife in public and in front of his children, without a care in the world, as if his wife has no rights. “He didn’t listen…He continued to hit and then started punching his wife.” “Mr. Mohammed then grabbed his wife's clothes and started tearing them off her and calling her a whore.” (p. 3) He felt like he could do anything to her, because she is his wife. Yes, they were married, but does this give him the right to treat her the way he treated her? Let's look...... middle of paper...... are they also in the business of human trafficking? We are all human beings, with hearts that beat with blood in ours veins We all come from a mother (female) who brought us into the world, this is how we repay her for giving us life woman does not deserve as much respect as a man and should not be treated as equal, regardless of age or by race. Whether in the past, present or future, we as women have rights and those rights should be upheld and maintained regardless of where we are in the world. We should not worry about our safety and that of our families wherever we go. We should be protected by the law and not sold out by those sworn to uphold the law. We should be loved and appreciated by those we love and not be humiliated by them. The moment of change begins with us seeking that change. Works Cited Half the Sky
