The article I have chosen to summarize refers to a medical condition known as attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Barbara A. Clay wrote about "Relieving ADHD Without Drugs," presumably because there are a growing number of children and adults suffering from this condition. As the article correctly noted, in the United States alone, an estimated 7% of children between the ages of 3 and 17 have ADHD. Therefore, these alarming numbers have raised the concerns of many parents, psychologists and other healthcare professionals in the continuous search for ways to treat or alleviate the effects associated with ADHD through non-pharmacological approaches. Therefore, in this article the focus is on behavioral treatments for ADHD that are considered highly effective. Many psychologists are developing behavioral interventions that parents, teachers and others can use to help children focus and control their impulses.
