In Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, Chaucer opens his story by telling of a number of people who are going on a pilgrimage. The Wife of Bath stands out more than the other characters involved in these stories. In Chaucer's "General Prologue", the Wife of Bath was described as a talented woman and an extravagant person who shows no fear. She is also described as a powerful woman and gets everything she wants. She has a lot of experience in love and sex. She displays her clothes with obvious pride, her face is wrapped in heavy cloth, her stockings are a beautiful scarlet color, and the leather of her shoes is soft and fresh. In "The Prologue of the Wife of Bath" the Wife of Bath talks about marriage, power and sex. The Wife of Bath is a selfish and domineering woman. In the "Prologue of the Wife of Bath" there is a quote that says "I have power, all my life, over his own body, and not over him" (Norton 164-165 ).
