The respectable Gettysburg Address promotes the artful ideas that spread his wisdom about the Civil War and enlighten those who wish to respect the many dead who fought on the Gettysburg grounds. Scattered throughout human history, great men have emerged who dedicated much of their lives to certain ideals, and did so despite grave circumstances and opposition. Abraham Lincoln, former president and also a war general, gave a speech to support and encourage the spirit of the tired soldiers of his army. The speech was called the Gettysburg Address. This speech uses a parallel structure and sets the tone of powerful tranquility so as to convey the idea that all the men who fought for their part in the Union will not perish in vain and that there is much to be done before the U.S. are whole. The purpose of his speech was to mobilize the people and focus their attention on the need to win the war so that the ideals of the founding fathers would be upheld. As Lincoln stated, “…That government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not pass away from the earth.” Compared to the ideas of the founding fathers, it refers to government and democracy and with these two things the Union will achieve its goal. He wanted to raise the morale of the soldiers and he wanted to ensure that the people who were listening ultimately understood why they were in this great mess and that the nation could not be divided again. He made no discrimination between North and South, but thereafter honored all soldiers with the utmost gratitude for their service. “Eighty seven years ago our fathers created on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that… middle of paper… these soldiers so willing to lay down their lives the line. Our determination to move forward with “greater devotion” is the only guarantee for our nation to move forward. This was then and still is today, "the great task before us." The purpose and key points of the Gettysburg Address were to honor those brave soldiers who fought in the battles. It also highlights the importance of freedom, independence and equality. He wants the nation to be united stronger and better for future generations. He wants everyone to realize that they have a role to play and only when they understand their part will the nation be strong. The Gettysburg Address tells the American people that even though many are lost, the search is not over, that there is still much to do before they can feel free and live their lives through the freedom given to them by God..
