Topic > In Cold Blood by Truman Capote - 703

The book I read for my nonfiction novel was called “In Cold Blood” by Truman Capote. Overall this book was disturbingly realistic, intriguingly interesting, and horrifyingly beautiful. While the Clutters go about their daily business, running errands and baking cakes, Dick and Perry prepare to rob the Clutters without leaving witnesses. After a long journey, they stop at the Clutter house with a rifle and knife in hand. That morning the bodies are discovered and investigations are launched to find the killers and put them where they belong. Soon rumors begin to circulate in their town, but meanwhile Dick and Perry leave for Mexico. When Dick and Perry are found and death comes, Dick is embarrassed and Perry is full of remorse. I personally liked Perry and Dick's relationship better in the book. And the best part of the novel is their chemistry, their feelings for each other, everything about them together. The way Capote depicted and portrayed him was phenomenal and extraordinary. This is the best part of the book because of how different they are but also how much they need each other to survive in the world they live in; because without the other it wouldn't be worth it. Dick always had control over Perry. But, in turn, Perry is much braver than Dick could ever be. The best example of this is the night of the murders. Dick worked out the whole plan, but even when Perry wanted to leave, he insisted that they stay there and continue searching for the safe. It is Perry who stops Dick from raping Nancy, but the fact remains that Perry reacted very emotionally to Dick's actions. On the other hand, Dick was operating according to the plan he had come up with and convinced Perry to accept it. While Dick I... middle of paper......t from what he was saying. I don't think he could have solved this problem without completely changing the story. For a story to truly excite a 16-year-old reading a book, they typically have to be able to relate to the book in some way, or want to be separated from the world the book is in. I think the intended audience for this book is someone mature enough to read it and understand it. It's for people looking for a boost from the safety of their home. Adventurous but shy people. Anyone who wants to be afraid for their life but be completely safe. I would definitely recommend this book to others because I had such a rush and thrill reading it. Personally, I think a good book will rip out your emotions and send them on a hellish journey. And that's exactly what this book did, it made me furious, sympathetic, happy and made me cry.
