The Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, is a law enforcement and national security organization. "The mission of the FBI is to protect and defend the United States from terrorist and foreign intelligence threats, to uphold and enforce the criminal laws of the United States, and to provide criminal justice leadership and services at the federal, state, and municipal levels and international agencies and partners" ("Quick Facts"). There are many different qualifications and requirements to become an FBI Special Agent, but the salary and career prospects are worth it. Federal agents have many duties and can specialize in a wide range of different areas. “As an FBI Special Agent you may work on matters including terrorism, foreign counterintelligence, organized crime, extortion, kidnapping, gang crime, public corruption, civil rights violations, cybercrime, financial crime, bribery, bank robbery, air piracy, interstate criminal activity, fugitive issues, and drug trafficking and other violations of federal statutes” (Gadek) Special agents perform tasks such as: “tracking the movement of stolen property across state lines,” “listening to wiretaps.” legal” and “carry out undercover investigations.” Once trained, special agents will specialize in one of five areas: intelligence, counter-intelligence, counter-terrorism, crime or cybercrime (Kane). specific field office where they will work and live nearby (“FBI Agent”).
