Stained glass artists capture not only artistic techniques, but also architectural methods to construct their works of art. These techniques have existed for thousands of years and have survived across multiple cultures. Colors, patterns, and scenes draw an emotional response from a viewer and portray a visual interpretation of a story, writing, or moment in time. To fully understand the scope of a stained glass window's art and architecture, an individual must first be aware of a stained glass window's origin. “Egyptian or Mesopotamian potters accidentally discovered glass while firing their vessels. The earliest known man-made glass is in the shape of Egyptian pearls dating from 2750 to 2625 BC (Gross, Par 5) Most people in the world today cannot explain where a simple sheet of glass came from or cannot visualize an existence without these fragile sheets of glass. Windows, however, did not appear for a few thousand years, and stained glass did not appear for many years after ordinary window glass was created. “The first stained glass [stained glass] windows were purely ornamental transparent mosaics.” (Coleman, Par. 3) Stained glass windows are traditionally established in Catholic churches and cathedrals, but can also be found in a variety of other locations. In the modern era, an individual can get a stained glass window for their home, business, or any other establishment where they want to place a window.
