Topic > The Nutcracker Suite - 536

Fantasia sees the world as a very colorful place where everything has a purpose. The proof of this is in their interpretive animations in the series of music put together to create the Nutcracker suite. All animations in the song are used to their maximum potential. For example, seaweed in the Arabian dance is used as a kind of curtain for the fish cave. The Nutcracker Suite is a very jubilant piece of music. As you watch the scene you start to realize that the animations, colors, etc., play a huge role in making that scene "pop". The way the Fairies' movements match perfectly with the music is very effective as it gives you a sense of calm. If Fantasia had used all dark colors and no touches of vivid shades, it would have given the song and setting a darker mood and atmosphere. The colors and actions in the dance must be phenomenal to give the scene an energetic atmosphere; Disney did very well, giving this song a joyful yet playful atmosphere. Disney did a great job interpreting these musical numbers. One example is Chinese dance: they created a flawless masterpiece in mushroom-animated Chinese dance. All the animations do something joyful, whether it's dancing or making flowers bloom, all the characters' actions convey a vibrant spirit. Animations are vital to creating an atmosphere/setting for the music. Another great thing that Disney did to create a good atmosphere in the animations is the characters they used: fish or flowers, all these animals give off a pleasant atmosphere as well as cheerful music. The dances in the song are a mix of elegant dances and happy dances that blend together perfectly. Half of the dances in the Nutcracker suite symbolize different events from history or everyday life. A great example of symbolic dance in film is the Russian dance; this dance which is performed in the Russian dance scene is a real Russian dance. Also, Disney, instead of having humans perform it, used flowers, which again gives it a very good vibe.
