Farm animal welfare is not so good in factory farming A few weeks ago, a couple of my friends and I went to eat burgers in a fast food restaurant; it was a very informal trip, without thinking about the origin of the ingredients we were enjoying. A few days ago I went on a very similar trip, but in that time I had become very aware of an issue that I felt needed to be addressed in more depth and ultimately made me question the story behind the meat I was eating. The ethical treatment of farm animals clashes with the need for the sustenance they provide and how that sustenance is produced. As Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson, author of The Face on Your Plate: The Truth About Food, states: “We are not encouraged, on a daily basis, to pay particular attention to the animals we eat. In contrast, the meat, dairy and egg industries all actively encourage us to think about our immediate interest (taste, for example, or cheap food) but not the actual suffering involved.” His point is very valid, a point that sheds light on this huge question: How far will factory farming go before the issue of animal treatment and rights is completely eradicated and redefined for the worse? The controversial issues of factory farming, focusing on the necessity of factory farming versus its harmful effects on the future of farm animals, will be analyzed through the most debated pros and cons, revealing the importance of preserving the welfare of farm animals and finding a alternative solution solution to intensive farming. The food industry in America is one of the largest, if not the largest, industries in the country. It controls and oversees what nearly every consumer in America eats and buys today. Thanks to… middle of paper… these future leaders need to wake up to this problem now to change this colossal real life problem. The simple change of improving the lives of farm animals can change the history of factory farming and America for the better. The controversial issue surrounding factory farming was analysed, focusing on the need for intensive farming and its detrimental effects on the future of farm animals. through pros and cons that revealed the importance of preserving the welfare of farm animals and finding an alternative solution to intensive farming. Now, when I have the choice between eating out at a fast food restaurant or eating at home with organic ingredients, I find it worth making the small sacrifice to support local farms and healthier animals. Everyone needs to make those small changes that can make a difference in changing the well-being and future of our farm animals.
