(Payne, Samper, Bettman, & Luce, 2008; Rey et al, 2008) The results of Dijksterhuis and Nordgren's 2006 study demonstrated that although a process occurs unconscious decision making, not This does not mean that conscious decision making does not and that it is not the best method for making decisions in all situations. Lassiter et al (in press) participants exposed to the memorization condition and conscious thought conditions were able to improve their memory-based judgments, as they consciously memorized the information. However, participants in the unconscious thinking condition and the memorization condition were not asked to form an impression and did not make any judgments during acquisition. Because these participants had no judgments to recall from memory and because they were distracted by the anagrams, they were unable to process the information as the conscious thinking condition did. This shows that while consciously thinking about the information, participants were able to memorize and form better opinions about cars than participants in the unconscious thinking condition.
