Topic > Teen Suicide - 1103

Suicide is the third leading cause of death between the ages of 15 and 24 (Green, paragraph 1) Teen suicide is the intentional act committed by adolescents usually under the age of 19 for embark on their lives. Suicide is not thought of in a day. It is a series of processes that occur in the mind before manifesting itself. However, during these processes there are visible signs that show a potentially suicidal person. There are factors that trigger and cause the suicidal act in a teenager. Most of these factors are usually the root causes but are not identified as such. The main influences of adolescent suicide are parental denial of signs of suicide. Some other influences of teen suicide include bullying, drug and alcohol abuse, depression, and easy access to guns. The first step we can take to eradicate teen suicide is to eliminate the “I don't care” attitude. Scott Fritz, whose 15-year-old daughter took her own life in 2003, says there are many things parents can do to prevent suicide (Place, Paragraph 2). Learn about warning signs, risk factors and, very importantly, protective factors (Place, Paragraph 3). Like many parents, Fritz said that "we had no idea that teen suicide was a problem" until her daughter's death (Place, Paragraph 4). Raising awareness of the problem of teenage suicide will dramatically reduce the number of suicides among teenagers. Parents have different roles which include roles at work, at home and in other places to which they have obligations. As parents, stress is bound to arise from these roles. Although role conflicts arise, it is their duty as parents to prevent them, especially if it is to the detriment of their children. Children shouldn't have to compete for... half the paper... to save you. So, “save a soul, save your life.” Works Cited "Bully". Dictionary.com. Np, nd Web. March 13, 2014."Depression."
