The civil rights movement was different because instead of armed riots and battles of thousands of people, the civil rights movement fought with words and protests. This type of revolution was in itself revolutionary. The CRM was modeled on Mahatma Ghandi's approach to Indian independence. The movement, led by Martin Luther King Junior, was underpinned by nonviolence. MLK was aware that an attack by his faction would only defame the CRM.
