For thousands of years, democracy has been the most acclaimed form of government. From the agoras of Athens, where democracy first exploded, to the world today, democracy has been a decisive element in modern world politics. The term democracy translates to “government by the people,” a system in which eligible citizens can decide through a common vote. However, democracy has evolved radically over the centuries, and so have its negative aspects. First, we must establish what is considered an “effective political system” and why democracy is, or is not, the most effective system of government today. According to the Worldwide Governance Indicators (WGI), effectiveness in governance can be seen through elements such as individual freedom, freedom. A good example would be to look at the United States. The legislative, judicial and executive branches all have the same authority, making it impossible for a single body to have all the power. This is a very important aspect of modern democracy, as it usually prevents the formation of dictatorships. Being guided by public will, democracy is more stable than any other form of government, and a democratic state is unlikely to be subject to revolution. Furthermore, democracies tend to be richer than non-democratic countries. This is an attractive image for a country that aspires to democracy, but many attempts at democratization in the past have failed due to poor management of the economy. A prosperous economy means more social spending, which means better and safer living conditions for people. Democracies ensure that everything is done to respond to popular demand and that the well-being of the many outweighs the well-being of the collective. Although many arguments are made against democratic regimes, it is clear that no other political system exists that can do this. fulfill the will of its citizens and empower the many through the nationwide election of representatives, mayors, presidents, and so on. In ancient Greece, this concept was reserved for eligible men, but as our world has evolved, we have been able to spread democracy to any ethnicity and gender. With the emergence of new democracies, we must not forget that no system is perfect, and every democracy will have its downsides as well as unhappy people, but keep in mind that no other political system aims to satisfy the needs of its citizens, while at at the same time providing a safe and liberal environment
