The development of Christian Europe consisted of many different philosophies and ideals. These ideals helped shape what Christianity is today. Augustine had many different ideas than Calvin and Luther, but they also had similar ideas and all aimed to transform Christianity as a religion. In early Christian Europe, Augustine writes, discusses, and explains the relationship that Christianity has with different religions, societies, and the Roman government. Augustine challenged the views and beliefs of the pagan faith. One of the views that Augustine disputed was the claim that people must worship the old gods to achieve material success. Augustine also represents a conflict between the City of God and the City of Man, which is a very influential idea in the development of Christian Europe. Augustine also exposes his theological translation which he considers linear and predetermined. Augustine's ideas stem from a series of events that occurred in the 5th century. During this period the city of Rome was conquered by the Vandals. This was significant because the city of Rome was very powerful and believed to be indestructible. This was a city seen as one that would never fall. The capture of this great city led to the fall of the Western Roman Empire. The Romans saw this destruction as a form of punishment for conversion from traditional Roman religion to Catholic Christianity. Pagans believed that Christians were responsible for the fall of the Roman Empire. Christians didn't like the fact that Christians wanted to be more loyal to their God rather than their state. The Christian God was believed to be the one true God, so the Romans could not understand why this God did not protect them as he should... middle of paper... Martin Luther had problems controlling his tongue, and it was believed that John Calvin fought the battle of faith with the weapons of the world. However, all three of these men will always be remembered for their proposed ideas, beliefs, and philosophies to transform Christianity as a religion. Each of these men transformed Christianity in a particular and unique way. Augustine taught salvation from God with Luther's ideas about the Word and Calvin's ideas about Scripture. These men transformed Christianity during their time and shaped Christianity for Christians for years to come. When Christians looked at the lives of these men they saw the glory and trust in God to overcome the visions and shortcomings of the world. Although these three men had different views, all three believed that if you put your faith and trust in God you would be successful in the social sphere and in the faithful aspects of life..
