Topic > Obstacles and Challenges in Life - 1254

Life is something much more complex than you might imagine. No matter who the person is or how old they are, everyone faces various obstacles and challenges that make their life difficult. Some people face physical limitations such as not being able to pick up something or climb a flight of stairs while others may face mental limitations such as not being able to understand something that is happening. Two of the most difficult times in an individual's life occur during the teenage and late adult years. These moments in a person's life can be overwhelming and stressful as a person tries their best to grasp the changes occurring before their eyes. Adolescence is often a time when drastic changes occur in an individual's life as they discover that they are no longer children, but not yet mature enough to be adults. One of the biggest problems teenagers face is peer pressure. Many teenagers may dress a certain way or listen to certain types of music just because they feel it will help them be accepted. Teenagers, in fact, feel as if they have an imaginary audience and must always be at their best to ensure that their popularity is not dented. Furthermore, adolescents face the conflict between identity and role confusion developed by Erikson. They must not only develop a sense of who they are, but also where they belong in their culture. Additionally, adolescents often begin to become involved in romantic relationships and possibly sexual activities. Teens need to figure out whether they prefer to date people of the same sex and/or opposite sex, and they also need to figure out whether or not they should have sex given the teachings they received during childhood. Anon… middle of the paper… they are afraid to admit that they can no longer perform activities at the levels they once did and therefore may need to seek assistance or abandon some of the activities they used to do . There are numerous examples of how people behave at certain stages in life, such as in the films Rebel Without a Cause and Miss Daisy's Driving. In Rebel Without a Cause, we see how the main characters struggle to discover who they are and what they will do with the rest of their lives. On the other hand, in Driving Miss Daisy, we see how Miss Daisy struggles to come to terms with the changes that have occurred in her life and the fact that her life is coming to an end. No matter how young or old you are, there are always challenges that will get in the way of where you want your life to be. However, it is up to the individual to accept the challenges in their life and make them work to their advantage.
