The excessive use of video games has been a problem for today's youth: they have exerted more influence on young people than ever before. This brings a question to my attention: How do video games affect the youth of our society? Excessive use of video games, especially violent video games, can lead to youth violence, decreased academic success, and many other negative things. I realize that some parents believe they can be good for children, I agree but in some cases I also disagree. Some parents allow their children to play video games to maintain a social life and learn strategies. This is true in some cases but not in all cases. For example, other children who play video games alone and are constantly in their rooms may isolate themselves socially or take gaming to a serious enough level that they start using them in real-life situations. Youth violence caused by video games stems from the fact that: “video games are an ideal environment in which to learn violence” (Eakes). There are a few reasons why violent video games cause our youth to act based on what they see in the video game. For example, Pamela Eakes, founder of Mothers Against Violence in America, stated that video games: “put the player in the role of the aggressor and reward them for violent behavior” (Eakes). This is true because in violent video games you have to fight and kill other players to win the game. Pamela Eakes also says about how violent video games influence the youth of our society: “they allow the player to experience an entire behavioral script, from provocation to choosing a violent resolution of the conflict” (Eakes). Video games are becoming more and more realistic than staying in the fantasy world of things and are...... middle of paper...... apart from playing games and doing nothing but eating all day and staring at computer screens computers and Xbox games, then you might want to get your kids out there so they don't become socially isolated from the real world.
