Pierre interprets whiteness in many different ways. The first thing that strikes you is the way Pierre speaks. He has this accent that he adapted to distinguish himself from other African Americans. At one point in the film his father even scolds him for his ridiculous accent and how he needs to stop. Another thing Pierre changed about himself was his name. Pierre Delacroix is the name he changed it to so it would sound like it had a less "black" background. His original name, Perrless Dothan, didn't fit the white image he was trying to put across. Pierre also promotes his image as a white man by dressing and acting as if he were white. He does his best to pretend that he has no "black" in him, at least at the beginning of the film. Mr. They do this because the entire film is satirical from the beginning. Throughout the entire film all the actors act out everything and exaggerate what is happening in each scene. One of the main ways this film uses satire is the TV show they put on. In the show they have two characters Mantan and Sleep and Eat. These two play the role of a “dancing monkey” and a lazy black individual. The actors they cast are already black, but they still have blackface. They also support the stereotype of black people having huge lips by putting red lipstick on and around their lips to increase their size. This is incredibly racist and offensive, but it allows the audience or America to love this show. They even act out the scenes in a way to add some humor and make the audience who watches this movie, Bamboozled, laugh. When the TV show started, Pierre was given a small toy bank. As the film progressed and the show became more and more successful, more and more dolls began to appear in the room. Then, when the movie started going south, the piggy banks started going crazy. Slowly at first, then eventually it goes completely crazy. This was driving Pierre crazy. Finally, at the end of the film, Pierre had completely lost his mind when he was surrounded by all his blackface dolls. All of this was symbolic for Pierre who sold himself out to the TV company and accepted his life as a "Joyful Negro" getting the first racist piggy bank when the show started wearing blackface when the anger surrounding the show reached its peak climax. Another example of symbolism is when the actors on the TV show wore blackface even though the actors were already black. This proved that on TV blacks are a joke, a joke to the point that they themselves should color their skin a blacker shade to show their separation from whites.
