In the play A Streetcar Named Desire, written by Tennessee Williams, there are two different personalities that we see in the main characters of the two sisters, Blanche DuBois and Stella Kowalski. Blanche is a more mature woman with an old-fashioned style. Meanwhile Stella is an understanding, helpful and protective woman from the heart of downtown New Orleans. The show is set in the 1950s and is set in New Orleans, Louisiana. Blanche plans to visit her sister Stella in the city. Blanche was an English teacher from Belle Reve, a plantation in her country. She has yet to realize how much her sister has changed and what an animal Stanley, Stella's husband, has become. From the beginning of the show, Blanche seems like a mature, responsible woman with no problems. As the play continues, both sisters have secrets they hide, raw emotions that reveal their character, and different realities that set them apart from each other. Stella seems like the perfect sister. She was given patience and compassion. He will listen to anyone and lend a hand whenever and wherever help is needed. Stella's ability to empathize with Blanche's problems and feelings could receive a sainthood nomination. Blanche has just arrived at Stella's house and is describing how she met Stanley. Stella explains that Stanley travels a lot and is away for weeks at a time: “When he's away for a week I almost go crazy! Kind!..... I guess this is what it means to be in love” (Williams23). Blanche informs Stella about Belle Reve, the plantation where they grew up. He says they lost him due to personal issues with his father and uncle. While dealing with this news, Stella maintains her composure and realizes… halfway through the paper… she is still on the stage of humanity!” (Williams72). Stella's emotional state is pushed to the limit in this passage. Blanche is attacking Stanley right in front of Stella and is doing nothing to defend her husband. Stella is the more mature one. Blanche is the one who acts like a teenager. Blanche and Stella don't have many similarities, but in the end they are very different. Blanche is annoying, disrespectful and has no manners or respect for her sister and Stanley. During the last scene of the play, Blanche is sent to an asylum with her doctor's escort. Stella and Stanley were the ones who asked for Blanche to be removed from society. The love Stellas has for Blanche pushed her to ask for help to save her sister. The result of Blanche telling lies is that she got what she deserved and was put back in her place.
