The Other Wes Moore is a book about two boys who share more than you might expect. They share the same name, they grew up in the same neighborhood, they both had difficult childhoods, and they both grew up without a father, the list goes on. They may have been the same in many ways, but they grew up completely differently. One day the author was reading the newspaper about it and came across an article about a planned jewelry store robbery that went awry. That article featured someone named Wes Moore. Author Wes Moore decided to write the man who was currently serving a life sentence. The author thought he would never receive a response, but he did. They have stayed in touch ever since and are good friends. Throughout the book, The Other Wes Moore, author Wes does an excellent job. So how did they become different? It's true that both Wes Moores grew up fatherless, but the way they lost their father was completely different. The author, Wes Moore, lost his father to a tragic death that could have been avoided. While, to begin with, the father of the incarcerated Wes Moore was never in his life. How they lost their fathers isn't the only thing that played a role in the Moores' different turn. The quality traits laid down by their fathers also played a role. Both fathers had different qualitative characteristics. The author's father was strong, independent, protective, non-violent and the list goes on. On the other hand, Wes' incarcerated father was a drunk. So does it really matter how the father walks away? I think so. Would you rather know what happened to your father or face the fact that your father never wanted to be a part of your life. As a result of the loss of their fathers, both Moores embarked on a path of destruction. But it was family and the memory of his father that guided author Wes Moore differently
