In "When Branches Get Tangled in a Stepfamily Tree" (2012) Elissa Gootman talks about lifestyle and maintaining relationships for stepfamilies and members. In general, reconstituted family refers to two adults living in the same house, married or cohabiting with at least one child from the previous family (Ch. 13, P410). Now, the number of former reconstituted families is increasing so rapidly. Gootman (2012) focuses on those families or blended families who have gone through a divorce. He had done several interviews with people who remain in stepfamilies to find the answer to the question "How do they deal with former stepfamilies?" The interview results show that most people do not maintain a closed relationship with their former stepfamily member. Another finding from a Pew Research Center survey shows that second marriages have a higher divorce rate than first marriages (Chapter 13, P415).
