In Everyday Use, there are three main characters, Momma, Dee (Wangero), and Maggie. The mother is also the narrator, she is a very tough and strong woman because she has gone through difficult times. Maggie, perhaps she is the shyest, most ignorant and most loved by a mother. The house fire incident left her with some scars; therefore he is afraid of the outside world and never spends a single moment without his mother. Maggie is also gifted at quilting. Dee, also known as Wangero, has been abroad to study and always thinks that Mom and Maggie are a stereotype. Throughout the story, Dee's behavior shows that she is not proud of her heritage and culture. The climax of the story occurs when Dee wants to take her grandmother's handmade quilts because she thinks they are a work of art. “His mother, on the other hand, sees it as an object of everyday use, imbued with personal and family value: herein lies its meaning. She then decides to give the quilt to her other daughter who appreciates the family history and intends to use it on her bed.”
