Although the conclusions of these tests are probably not definitive and applicable to all people, they suggest that the sleep and study habits of many college students may be counterproductive to the goal that they are trying to achieve. It is common for college students to stay up most or all of the night to study for a test. While it would seem that for a college student to stare at the information he or she should know for many hours would be much more useful than going to sleep. A student cannot acquire any information while sleeping, so why waste time? Research suggests that sleep is not wasted time at all. It can be helpful for a student to schedule sleep; work and study as much as possible during the day to ensure a good time for going to bed. Of course, this is not always possible, but it is certainly better to avoid chronic sleep deprivation and get enough sleep on the nights when it is most needed.
