No matter where people come from, where they live, or their race, they will always be judged by others causing shame to someone with pride. There are many occasions when people feel desperate because they don't like where they come from. Others judge them by their origin. Some people don't care what others say, they love their home community and will not leave the area they live in because they feel they belong there. In "Invasion" by Benjamin Percy shows his anger towards others who come to his hometown in Bend, Oregon because he feels some kind of invasion that causes his town to be transformed by others. In "The Barrio" by Robert Ramirez he describes his colorful barrio, meaning that each house has its own story and he would not leave his barrio for any reason because he loves it. As a child you do many horrible things but you do them because you either don't care or don't know the consequences of their actions. Percy was a teenager living in Bend, Oregon and was happy living there. He started seeing people from California, Seattle and Portland coming to his city and felt they were invading his territory. Percy and his friends would do many bad things to rich people because they hated them and wanted them out. Bend was a place where there was a lot of empty land, usually grassy fields. “When I go back to Bend now, I don't recognize her. I get lost walking around. There are roads where there were none before. There are roundabouts where intersections once were. Hectares of sagebrush have given way to large warehouses." Percy left Oregon for a long time, but when he returned he saw something he never expected to happen. While turning Percy got lost because this was a new… medium of paper… I would never want to leave South Central because I feel comfortable where I live. No matter where you come from you should always feel proud of your origins and don't let anyone belittle you because everyone has a different story. Like in “The Barrio,” Ramirez explains how he lives in a bad environment but at the same time loves the Barrio because there are many things that make him and the neighborhood united like a family. In "Invasion" Percy says how much he cares about his city and that he would like to protect it from others who want to try to transform it but when he leaves everything changes and when he returns he is ashamed of what it has become because he cared a lot for his city. If you are ever told that the place or race you come from is worthless or that it is a horrible place ignore them and feel proud of your native community and race.
