As shown in the graph below, as single mother families grow, violent crimes also grow because there are not both parents showing discipline and teaching children how behave. If there was only one parent in a family where my great-grandmother lived, the average family would have 6 or more children, so a woman taking care of 6 or more children would have to work day and night to feed them until they can help out a little ', even in this case it may not be enough. But there would be no time for discipline in that situation because if the children did not behave well at home the mother would not be there to discipline them because of work and the father would have abandoned them. Those guys would have had free rain to do what they wanted and would hardly have had any repercussions because there was no one there. All in all, before World War II, I believed that society was constructed in such a way that social control helped stabilize crime. This is evident in Portugal from my great-grandmother's stories and responses. He showed me that crime is controlled by families and how bonding and discipline help bring each other into line. Just as there is no time to commit crimes when you are always doing something or working or taking care of household chores, also that cities are so connected to each other that they help keep tabs on each other. Religion helps to control crime according to established rules and laws which we see evident with the low divorce rate of that era which led to a decrease in crime due to the fact that there are two people working together to disciplinary there
